Paul, Fascinating. And it turns out that Adams' understanding of the inability of humans to progress was the right one -- controls need to be in place to stop the otherwise inevitable descent into bad places. The idea that "humans are getting better over time" has failed the test of time, I fear. It shows the brilliance of the Constitution's presumption that this would likely not happen.
